Written for Langley Band’s “Showtime” concert, Hubris is the manisfestation of extreme arrogance and self-belief that can drive the most noble of warriors into tyrannical murders. The piece is loosely programmatic, taking inspiration from what a soundtrack to Shakespeare's Macbeth might sound like. The introduction often weaves three moving parts over each other as the trio of witches tell their prophecies and plot against Macbeth. There are also various depictions of marching as a disguised army marches on Macbeth and, ultimately, brings about his demise.
The piece changes time signature regularly but is not technically demanding.
