Dreamcatcher was written for the Next Gen Brass Project, organised by Victoria Goddard, and aims to capture the sense of wonder, innocence and freedom that seems to leave most people as they get older. A dreamcatcher is a traditional object from Inidigenous American cultures that is said to protect against bad dreams and only allow good dreams to reach the sleeper. The piece features a reference to a theme from a video game I played as a child (b.41-44) and multiple harmonic devices that reinforce a sense of melancholy and youthfulness.
